Dior Resort 2019 - Back In The Saddle Bag Again With A Dress-up Fantasy Of Gauchas & Chantilly Lace

I love this collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior, but it does feel slightly dress-up. It was of course very beautiful, and inspired by the gauchas of Mexico who put on a rodeo show beforehand; to create an independent woman traveller from a bygone age. Maybe a Karen Blixen style character. And I could imagine Salma Hayek wearing the collection in a Mexican movie, or an adaptation of a Gabriel García Márquez book. The pieces included saddle bags, toile de jouy, Chantilly (the venue) lace, mountains of tulle, travelling suits, flounces, and leather crafted into bar jackets and knife pleat circle skirts. And it wasn't just South America that Maria Grazia was inspired by, as our explorer took to Africa with the animal printed skirts of that continent's Big 5. The look of Mr Dior was all there, but this collection had bite.
