Chanel Metiers d'Art Hamburg Ready-to-Wear Pre-Fall 2018

A terrific show in Hamburg last night from Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. With this year's show dedicated to the city's seafaring history, and held in the new Elbphilharmonie arts centre. And what a collection showing the artistry of the handmade fabrics and designs. I loved the short suits, especially the double breasted jacket sans skirt. Karl drew on Coco's style with 30's style coats, long cardigan coats and floaty skirt. There was androgyny with girls in bow ties, sailor collars and wide sailor pants, gorgeous military coats and Karl riffing on puffer jackets. Chanel style. The tweed fabric was shot through with lurex, and skirts sparkled with sequins for a season of Christmas parties. But for winter walks the sailor jumpers were spot on, maybe not the leg warmers, unless you have pipe cleaner style 16 year old Kaia Gerber legs. And definitely not the pipes. The duffle bags were great and the Chanel boxes were made to look like miniature shipping containers or trunks. And those curved heel shoes with jewelled ribbon trim are clicking.
