Chanel Paris Haute-Couture A/W 2017

This year Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel brought the Couture collection very much closer to home with a replica of the Eiffel tower in the Grand Palais Crystal Palace. His tweed designs were created in an Edwardian look with the leg-of-mutton style sleeves, longer length skirts and the voluminous coats. And footwear was of the period button down ankle boots, although they also came in long kinky boot style. For daywear into Autumn the collection is totally practical, although it was noticeable at Cannes and other red carpet events that Chanel gowns are often absent. But there were some lovely party frocks here rather than true event dressing gowns. Perfect for cocktails when a big ballgown would be too much. So a very good and practical collection from Karl. I would say be extravagant and order the lot. But given the expense of couture it would be possible to choose just a handful and still feel a million dollars.
